I had high hopes for this as a way to dramatically expand our cargo capacity for our CR-V.We packed it less than half full of beach gear and drove 12 hours to the beach. When we unloaded it upon arrival, we found that there were rips and holes in the bag. See pic.Would NOT recommend.
Used this weekend for the 1st time, put bedding, clothes, pillows in it and everything was wet. There are ware marks in it that we noticed when we opened it at the campground. These could not have bine made by what we put in it. Not happy that there is no choice to contact the shop about this. We just took it out of the package on Thursday. Would not recommend this to anyone.
Bought for an approximately 2,400 mile family road trip. Instructions were not detailed but simple enough to figure out. I actually liked the strap attachment loops that hooked into the door frame. This bag ended up being much larger than we needed for 6 people so it was not completely filled. I noticed when putting the bag on the roof, there was light shining through a few thin spots on the material but didn't think too much about it. I noticed half way through the trip, the material appeared to be becoming damaged in areas it was creased or catching wind. By the end of the trip, a large tear had formed in the front right seam and the front left seam was also damaged. Luckily we didn't encounter any rain but if we had, our stuff would have gotten wet through the holes that had developed. I think the bag was catching wind in areas that were creased or not full. Unless the bag is completely full and smooth on the outside, I think rips in the material will develop. Our trip was mostly driving 70-80 mph. The bag stayed secure and didn't move much.
What you're getting here is a large rubber storage bag, ratchet straps, plastic buckle straps, a mat, and a carry case. I was initially pretty excited about this, but my enthusiasm died somewhat when this arrived.Let's start with the rubber storage bag. This is the meat and potatoes of what you're getting. This gives you a great waterproof way to transport your stuff when you've run out of room in the car. This is great, no complaints here.The plastic buckle straps have me a little nervous. I'm reluctant to trust cinching these plastic buckles down and head down the highway at 80 MPH. I imagine that most people aren't planning to use just the plastic buckles.This brings us to the ratchet straps. I would much rather use these instead or in tandem with the buckle straps. My concern here is that there no weight limit listed for these ratchet straps. This is not noted anywhere in the product listing or in the packaging. Even ratchet straps from harbor freight tell you what their test is.Lastly, I don't believe that the perforated mesh mat is doing anything to save the roof of your car. It's thin, and honestly I'm not willing to risk it.For me, this product has its place, and that place is in the bed of a truck or in a trailer. This needs to be somewhere safe where it can't fly off the roof of a car.
There's a bit of a learning curve to setting this thing up, but everything you need is included in the box, except for good instructions I suppose. The padded protective mat fit well on a smaller SUV, although the only thing to hold it down is whatever weight you have in the cargo bag; I would've liked to see some velcro straps or some attachment method for the mat as well, but it didn't give me any problems when driving. The cargo bag is very thick TPU material with strong zippers that that unzip about 2/3s of the bag which makes for easy packing. The zippers are covered by velcro flaps which are necessary to keep water out and there's 4 strong handles that make getting it on top of your truck fairly easy.It comes with more straps than you'll need for the 3 pairs of tie down points and both the ratcheting straps and door hooks are strong. The S-hooks on the ratcheting straps didn't quite fit around my cargo rails but they made it around enough for the bag to be secure when tightened down. Because of this I also chose to use the door hooks at the front and rear of the bag. All of the webbing and hardware is strong and nothing came unhooked or even shifted around on my test run, so I'm pretty confident it'll be good on an upcoming trip. Overall, it's a nice cargo bag and works out for me as a cheaper solution than renting a U-Haul and having a hitch installed, so I'm pretty happy with it in general and think it'll work out well.
I ordered this soft-sided car rooftop bag over other ones because I don't have roof rails on my car. This bag allows me to still have the luxury of extra storage on my roof, even without having roof rails.The material used is thick and heavyweight enough to be weatherproof so I can have peace of mind knowing that the items I put in it will stay dry, no matter what kind of weather I run into on the road. The straps are strong and I appreciate the ratchet mechanism for tightening the straps, and quick release when I get home and unload. And the items I pack in it are easily accessible when I'm on the road.Plus I can fold it up and stash it alway when I'm not using it.I recently used this cargo bag on a 3000-mile road trip. The photo pretty much sums up the durability of it. And that was only halfway through the trip. I ended up buying thick flex tape to try and cover the ripped sections and a box of heavy duty plastic bags to put my stuff in, just in case the tape didn't work.
We are headed on a 3 week expedition to the desert and wanted a rooftop carrier for our sleeping bags, inflatable mattress and tent. This carrier is much heavier and stronger that I could have imagined! We have run rivers and the material that this is made of reminds me of those super strong rafts.They have thought of everything and included it in this kit with straps, adjustable straps, a piece to protect the top of your vehicle and a lock. The zipper is heavy duty, operates easily and has a flap to protect it from the weather. This is a definite yes to anyone considering a rooftop carrier.
As putting on car, one od the handles came loose. Then we drove about 100 miles and a seam in the fabric tore.
The overall setup was great and I loved it but when I unpacked all of my things they were SOAKING wet. All of my clothes in my suitcase were soaked, my mini fridge had water inside the pump. I am overall disappointed at this item.
I used this for a long trip it worked perfect for me. I had three bags one 19- carry-on and one 23- and 27-.I don't think I will fit more, but it was great fo me!100% would recommend it.
I used this product for a total of approximately 3415 miles. It broke sometime before I got to my final destination so I'm not sure what the actual mileage it lasted for is. Many of you might think that's a lot but for me it was 2 road trips. I expected it to last a lot longer. I especially did not expect it to rip as obviously everything inside became wet. I wanted it to last and I wanted it to be a great product but it just isn't.
Drove 2700 miles 65-75 mph thru couple hours of hard rain all blankets sleeping bags were perfectly dry. Im buying more as gifts
