FAQ

Hitch Carriers FAQ

General Compatibility & Installation

Q: What vehicles are compatible with the hitch cargo carrier?
A: The cargo carrier fits vehicles with a 2" hitch receiver. Always verify that your vehicle’s hitch class and weight capacity support the carrier.

Q: Can the cargo carrier be used with a hitch extender?
A: Yes, as long as the hitch extender is rated for the appropriate weight capacity and does not compromise stability.

Q: Is this hitch carrier approved for use on a 5th wheel?
A: Yes, as long as the hitch receiver meets the required weight capacity. Always double-check your vehicle’s specifications.

Q: Can the hitch carrier be attached to a tow ball?
A: No, it is not designed for tow ball use. It must be connected to a hitch receiver.

Safety & Security

Q: How does the hitch stabilizer & lock system enhance safety?
A: The hitch stabilizer minimizes wobbling and movement, while the hitch lock prevents theft by securing the carrier to the vehicle.

Q: Will dual exhaust pose a fire hazard?
A: The heavy-duty steel withstands high temperatures, but it is recommended to maintain a safe distance from the exhaust to prevent heat exposure.

Q: Does the cargo carrier block the rearview camera?
A: It may partially obstruct visibility depending on your vehicle and the cargo being carried. Always check after installation and adjust if needed.

Q: What is the maximum recommended height for stacking cargo?
A: If stacking above the side rails, use a cargo net or tie-down straps to keep items secure during travel.

Durability & Maintenance

Q: Is the cargo carrier rust-proof?
A: The carrier is made of anti-rust steel with a protective coating. For extended durability, periodically apply a rust-resistant spray and store it indoors when not in use.

Q: Is the carrier weather-resistant?
A: Yes, it has a rust-resistant coating to protect against harsh weather conditions.

Storage & Usage

Q: How do I fold the cargo carrier for storage?
A: The carrier features a tilting design for compact storage. Follow the user manual for folding instructions.

Q: Can the cargo bag be used on a roof rack?
A: No, the cargo bag is not designed for roof use. High wind speeds and improper installation could cause damage, and roof mounting is not covered under warranty.

Cargo Bag Features & Security

Q: How can I keep my belongings safe and dry in the cargo bag?
A: The waterproof cargo bag has carry handles, zipper pulls, a protective zipper flap, Velcro closures, and buckle straps. It also includes an anti-theft lock for added security.

Q: Does the hitch cargo carrier extend for additional storage?
A: The carrier itself does not extend, but the waterproof cargo bag is flexible and can expand to fit different cargo sizes.

I got a variation on this carrier a little over a year ago and this is slightly but not significantly improved. The grade 8.8 metric bolts are a plus versus the 4.8 grade last year. Alignment is still an issue though with some things being bent. The pivot idea is still good but you can't have it more than 18-20 inches off the ground and be able to manage getting it up the tilted ramp. I use mine on the hitch receiver of a full size pickup truck and it's a two person job, one simply to balance a 430 pound ADV bike and it's not easy. What this needs is a slideout ramp combined with tilt to lessen the grade the bike has to climb. The straps are regular cheap ratchet straps with open hooks. This absolutely needs straps with bails on the hook to keep them attached when or if they get loose. It has happened to me when the carrier starts to bounce around on the highway and it will. The carrier weighs in at 68 pounds on my scale. It was banged up and portions of the tubing were damaged through the paint and primer. My overall impression is that this is perfect for hauling a bike at half the claimed weight capacity, something easier to load and less weight to carry. A small displacement dirt bike or dual sport in the 250 pound range would be easier to handle and would not likely break anything. I question whether I should use it to rescue a buddy riding something that weighs over 300 pounds. I'm generally an adherent to the architectural concept that if it doesn't bend, it will break. But this is a lot of weight on a 2" square hitch tube with a wall thickness of 3/16" that is supporting a 500 pound load and a 68 pound carrier over two feet from the hitch pin with no additional support. It's 100% tongue weight. I will limit what I carry. For my ADV bike and for rescue missions, I'll be looking for a trailer.

This bike carrier will not hold 50lbs. My bike is 278lbs and it is going to break the pivot bar. I just carried my bike 50 miles and it is already bent. The mounting plate for the pivoting bar should be 1/4" steel. The main bar is also collapsing. There should be crush sleeves welded in place everywhere a bolt passes through the very thin tubing. Even just pushing on it by hand, you can see the metal bending and tubing collapsing.Update, after looking at it closer, I discovered the weld is cracked on the pivot mount. If this broke off will driving, the bike and rack could kill someone.

As advertised. Only thing I couldn't figure out is how to mount the license plate. No bracket and only 2 holes available. The box did arrive with a large open gap in it, so if there was a bracket it might have fallen out. Going to put the KTM on it tomorrow and see what happens.

The trailer was easy to assemble and has solid parts

The trailer was easy to assemble and has solid parts.
With my Ktm 350 on, it became to heavy for me to lift, I’ve had to use a lift assist process.

The price is good for this heavy duty rack. My e- bike fits well and is very secure.

All the hardware was accounted for and all welds were solid. Mockins has stepped-up their quality control for sure! Assembly was easy and the rack itself is very sturdy. I am using this for a heavy, 85 lb ebike so the 500lb max load rating and the sturdy ramp are perfect. Why spend $500-$1000 for an expensive ebike rack when this motorcycle ramp carries way more weight and includes the ramp and straps? Easy to install on my hitch and the bike is secured with the straps in just a few minutes.

We bought this for my son's dirt bike. I was able to transport my F700GS (about 460# according to the manual) This carrier is a little too short for that motorcycle but carries the dirt bike just fine.

It came packaged fine. It was not missing any parts. Not bent or broken. The hardware is a whole different story. Some of the bolts aren't actually big enough and all the washers are just too flimsy and not large enough in outside diameter. I am about to go to the hardware store to fix that issue. The rest is run of the mill stuff nothing major all parts line up and it *should* work just fine. I will update this after I correct the hardware issues and give it a test run.

Bought this to use for my electric bike. It does a great job and seems very sturdy. I did buy my own reflective tape to put on it as I wanted to cover both ends with it. So far so good.

I spent an extra 50$ on this carrier and I got a package that was unopened, packaged correctly and this one is one solid peice of steel. Have not put my ebike on it yet cause of weather. Will follow up when the roads are dry.

Due to the negative reviews, I was a little skeptical about the purchase. Although the instructions were not clear on how to put it together, it is easy to follow if you refer to the picture first. This dirt bike took me over an hour to complete. The bike didn't move at all over bumps and it did not move much. This purchase was a great success.

Instructions were a little hard to understand and I don't like that the ramp bolts to the stand with a bolt that is about 5 inches too long. I just put It in the back of my car. The straps are also EXTREMELY long.Otherwise, the ramp is perfect. Very easy to put on and off and not too heavy.

This rack was extremely durable and very easy to install. I was able to do it by myself within a couple of minutes. It's very strong and high quality so there's no issues with the upcoming loose or wobbling despite numerous trips and road bumps. It clamps down super tight and you feel like your items are secure no matter what. I love how functional it is and it makes me feel good knowing that my bike and other items are safe on any road trip we have. Highly recommended.
