FAQ

Hitch Carriers FAQ

General Compatibility & Installation

Q: What vehicles are compatible with the hitch cargo carrier?
A: The cargo carrier fits vehicles with a 2" hitch receiver. Always verify that your vehicle’s hitch class and weight capacity support the carrier.

Q: Can the cargo carrier be used with a hitch extender?
A: Yes, as long as the hitch extender is rated for the appropriate weight capacity and does not compromise stability.

Q: Is this hitch carrier approved for use on a 5th wheel?
A: Yes, as long as the hitch receiver meets the required weight capacity. Always double-check your vehicle’s specifications.

Q: Can the hitch carrier be attached to a tow ball?
A: No, it is not designed for tow ball use. It must be connected to a hitch receiver.

Safety & Security

Q: How does the hitch stabilizer & lock system enhance safety?
A: The hitch stabilizer minimizes wobbling and movement, while the hitch lock prevents theft by securing the carrier to the vehicle.

Q: Will dual exhaust pose a fire hazard?
A: The heavy-duty steel withstands high temperatures, but it is recommended to maintain a safe distance from the exhaust to prevent heat exposure.

Q: Does the cargo carrier block the rearview camera?
A: It may partially obstruct visibility depending on your vehicle and the cargo being carried. Always check after installation and adjust if needed.

Q: What is the maximum recommended height for stacking cargo?
A: If stacking above the side rails, use a cargo net or tie-down straps to keep items secure during travel.

Durability & Maintenance

Q: Is the cargo carrier rust-proof?
A: The carrier is made of anti-rust steel with a protective coating. For extended durability, periodically apply a rust-resistant spray and store it indoors when not in use.

Q: Is the carrier weather-resistant?
A: Yes, it has a rust-resistant coating to protect against harsh weather conditions.

Storage & Usage

Q: How do I fold the cargo carrier for storage?
A: The carrier features a tilting design for compact storage. Follow the user manual for folding instructions.

Q: Can the cargo bag be used on a roof rack?
A: No, the cargo bag is not designed for roof use. High wind speeds and improper installation could cause damage, and roof mounting is not covered under warranty.

Cargo Bag Features & Security

Q: How can I keep my belongings safe and dry in the cargo bag?
A: The waterproof cargo bag has carry handles, zipper pulls, a protective zipper flap, Velcro closures, and buckle straps. It also includes an anti-theft lock for added security.

Q: Does the hitch cargo carrier extend for additional storage?
A: The carrier itself does not extend, but the waterproof cargo bag is flexible and can expand to fit different cargo sizes.

Very pleased with the new cargo carrier. Solid made, with a generous weather resistant coating. Assembled in a few short minutes. Also great to have two "sizes"... but I'll keep the 48" version on the car. Over all very solid unit. The golden retriever says thanks, I reclaimed my cargo area back.

I bought this to fit on our 2019 Outlander and it was amazing for our long family trip. It held up well with luggage for a family of 7. Survived the trip from NE Ohio to Orange Beach, Alabama and back with no issues.A few things to note:The rack comes in 4 pieces that fit together. The tubes are flared on one side so they slide into the opposing tubes and everything screws together with some smaller button head sheet metal screws. Some of the tubes were bent a little and took some persuasion with a rubber mallet to fit into place. The thumb nuts that tighten down the hold down brackets kind of jam on the threaded U Bolts and I found it easier to install the thumb nuts facing down.Lastly, even with the wind faring slant at the front there is quite a bit of noise when empty and it does impact your gas milage. I would recommend only keeping it installed when in use.The netting held down our luggage just fine and I used the ratchet straps as an extra level of security. To keep things dry I bought a tarp and laid it inside the basket, put our luggage in, folded the tarp across the top of the luggage, installed the netting and then the straps. Everything stayed exactly where I wanted it to. On our trip I say many people traveling with the hard top carriers and soft top carriers. This is by far the better option of you have a lot of things to keep tied down.

Works as it should. No issues out of it. Looks great. Real easy to put together. Would buy again for another vehicle in a heartbeat. Great customer service. Comes with a 10yr warranty as well. Can't beat that.

Mounted this on a mid sized SUV. One complaint is that they way it mounts it didn't line up on the roof rack's cross bars very well and there's no adjusting that. It also bothered me that not all of the mounting hardware is color matched. It would be slick if the screw heads were black instead of silver. Same goes for the "U- bolts that mount it to the roof rack. I got the car up to highway speed with an empty basket and the noise wasn't bad. I wish there were better connections between basket sections. I didn't use any of the extensions because I wanted to leave the sunroof clear on the car and because only the sides of the basket are secured, the middle/bottom doesn't have a connection point. Overall I think this is a pretty serviceable unit. I love the cargo net and straps. Very handy that it comes with those. Worth a try if the price point is good

This fits perfectly on top of my trailer. I use this for vendor shows and having a secure space on top to put tables and chairs is a great benefit!

I was a little worried this would be too flimsy when I ordered it but gave it a shot anyways. Not an issue. Solid heavy frame. Connections are strong. Install was easy.

I has some issues getting this rack assembled and attached to my crossbars. Fortunately Mockins has US based customer support and when I called them they solved my issues. The main problem is that the instructions show that a plastic insert is installed between the upper bracket and the crossbar. When I did this there was a large gap and the u-bolt was too short to reach the upper bracket. The customer service agent said that the plastic insert was optional and when I removed it the bracket was in contact with the crossbar and the u-bolt was just the right length to attach the plastic knobs. The other issue was that the plastic knobs were very hard to turn, at least initially. I think this is because there is some plastic in the threads. The only way I could get them installed was to wear gloves and use the u-bolt as a lever to turn the knob. Once the knobs were threaded and unscrewed a few times it was possible to turn the knobs while installing the brackets. The brackets held the rack very securely and there was practically no noise from the rack as I drove at speeds up to 50 mph.I also had the issue some others had where one of the sleeves used to cover the screws cracked. It's no big deal to use electrical tape to cover the crack although I do wonder how long it will last.Even though I had a number of issues, none of them are deal breakers. The rack is strong and silent and will get plenty of use.

Pretty decent roof rack if you're on a budget.I've been wanting to add a roof rack for awhile to my 4Runner, so when I saw this available I decided to give it a try. The rack came nicely packaged and the parts were protected. After I unpacked the box, it only took me a few minutes to assemble it. It's easy and straight forward. I originally assembled the whole thing, but when I put it on top of my 4Runner, it was just too big for my needs. So I took a section out and it fits much better. The rack itself is pretty light. I'm 53 years old and had no issues getting this on the roof by myself. However, once I had it up there, I soon realized the rack would not mount properly to my aftermarket LFD OR cross bars. So I had to remove it and am waiting to order OEM cross bars to mount it properly. As of now I do like the rack. Super easy to put together and install. My only real concern is how it will hold up to the elements. This isn't something I'd leave on year round, but just during the summer months when we're doing a lot of camping and traveling. But still it will see rain so we will see if any rust forms or not. I have no reason to believe it will, it's just something I'll keep an eye out for.I'm happy with it for being a $200 cargo rack. You have to spend several times that if you want something bulletproof. But if you're someone like me who will only use it on occasion a few months out of the year, I think it's a good investment. Should any issues arise down the road, I'll come back and update this review.

Update: After about a week of having this on my car, I felt I had to add that it's super loud on the freeways, even when empty. It's also been a pretty consistent 3% increase in energy consumption to drive with it on empty and gets up to 7% when I had flat surfaces (boxes) on it. The webbing and ratchet straps do a good job of keeping things held down though.Very much a budget roof rack. It ended up sticking to the rail on my model y, but the attachment design doesn't clamp down very well and it certainly doesn't do enough to keep it from sliding sideways. The powder coating scraped off the joints too easily and three of the rubber covers came split (I'll just print a tpu replacement). The caps that go over the mounting u-bolt don't fit at all so I'm really expecting this to rust pretty quickly.

pics say it all, nothing a hammer didn't realign. Hope to god it's decent enough steel to hold up if I was able to get it to work with a fair amount of swings.

Very sturdy, installation was simple, can easily withstand whatever you throw at it.This rack was an upgrade to a small 4'x4' on my Rav4 that was still pretty robust. Middle section of rack does hang a little lower however thats just esthetics, functionality wise the middle the front or end are firm and don't sway. The only con for me is the screws around the perimeter stick out and could snag your cargo when loading. Could possibly upgrade it to pan head screws. Secondly, which is totally my fault, make sure to inspect the hardware for the clamps. Tighten after every load as they are small for the rack so they could loosen as mine did, Safety first!Ratchets and net are throw ins but best to get better ratchet, they do their job if not heavy cargo. 250lbs! For sure this can withstand the heavy load. We throw bins, canopies, chairs, even occasionally strollers up there it yawns at whatever we throw up there.Overall, totally recommend this rack to friends and family. Warning though you will get frequent compliments on it, first compliment we got was from a lady; "Nice rack, very big, been meaning to get it that big" she said.

I read reviews that this product was hard to assemble. I had no issues with the assembly, however there was a manufacturing issue and the coating wasn't done correctly on the back and already had rust forming. I took photos and called their customer service on Monday am when they opened and WOW. They replaced the item in less than 5 minutes and are sending a new one.I will say the fit is great, the damage is being replaced and I am happy!I will update as I load on it and travel with my replacement!

It would be 5 stars if the fasteners that came with it were stainless and or high quality. I broke one bolt putting it together and did not want to chance it so I went to Ace for all new bolts, washers, and lock washers all in stainless steel. Do yourself a favor and just buy stainless before assembly!
