Hitch Carriers FAQ

General Compatibility & Installation

Q: What vehicles are compatible with the hitch cargo carrier?
A: The cargo carrier fits vehicles with a 2" hitch receiver. Always verify that your vehicle’s hitch class and weight capacity support the carrier.

Q: Can the cargo carrier be used with a hitch extender?
A: Yes, as long as the hitch extender is rated for the appropriate weight capacity and does not compromise stability.

Q: Is this hitch carrier approved for use on a 5th wheel?
A: Yes, as long as the hitch receiver meets the required weight capacity. Always double-check your vehicle’s specifications.

Q: Can the hitch carrier be attached to a tow ball?
A: No, it is not designed for tow ball use. It must be connected to a hitch receiver.

Safety & Security

Q: How does the hitch stabilizer & lock system enhance safety?
A: The hitch stabilizer minimizes wobbling and movement, while the hitch lock prevents theft by securing the carrier to the vehicle.

Q: Will dual exhaust pose a fire hazard?
A: The heavy-duty steel withstands high temperatures, but it is recommended to maintain a safe distance from the exhaust to prevent heat exposure.

Q: Does the cargo carrier block the rearview camera?
A: It may partially obstruct visibility depending on your vehicle and the cargo being carried. Always check after installation and adjust if needed.

Q: What is the maximum recommended height for stacking cargo?
A: If stacking above the side rails, use a cargo net or tie-down straps to keep items secure during travel.

Durability & Maintenance

Q: Is the cargo carrier rust-proof?
A: The carrier is made of anti-rust steel with a protective coating. For extended durability, periodically apply a rust-resistant spray and store it indoors when not in use.

Q: Is the carrier weather-resistant?

Cargo Bag Features & Security

A: The waterproof cargo bag has carry handles, zipper pulls, a protective zipper flap, Velcro closures, and buckle straps. It also includes an anti-theft lock for added security.

Solidly built and easy to assemble. Everything including the lockable pin, bag and other accessories seems very well built as well. Going to road test it soon and will update this review if anything should fail.I have used this carrying 200# +/- a sizable distance over the last few months. Definitely has some bounce to it when hitting low or high spots in the road, but performed well. Just be aware of the bounce. I ended up adding some magnetic lights as a larger load will block your brake/ turn lights and the carrier blended in with the black trim on my subi when viewing from the back.It should also be noted that when tightening down the straps on the cover, one of the plastic pieces broke, so I would definitely use some metal ratchet straps in conjunction to secure the load on the carrier.Still a good 4 to 4.5 stars

This is a large and sturdy rack. Fits well on the Honda Pilot OEM 2" hit receiver.Able to put a 100 gallon cooler and plastic storage container with much room to spare.Perfect for this camping trip that requires you to bring extra supplies and equipment. The provided straps and net is strong and tightly fits over the containers.Only main complaint is a slight issue with alignment, while assembling the product. As others noted, the alignment of holes were slightly off, but does not impede with overall installation and because of the tight tolerances, it makes it feel even more sturdy, with no rattles.Overall great purchase and perfect rack!

The unit comes with everything you will need to haul your stuff except for a few add-ons that I did to make it better.Get the red locktite and use that when assembling to ensure the screws/bolts do not come off.I installed this on a 2015 dodge grand caravan to haul large suitcases 700 miles from the Chicago to Greensboro. The trip encountered heavy rain and winds. The suitcases were kept dry in the bag that comes with the unit. The bag is made of heavy plastic and ensures nothing with get in.The ratchet straps are of the 1" variety. Good enough to hold down suitcases using the bag that comes with the unit. Invest in some wider straps if you don't plan on using the bag to say move a grill, cooler, etc.The anti-vibration plate kept the basket from shaking or moving at all on the trip. Well worth it.The add-on I did was installed some magnetic signal lights. I modified them so that I could also zip tie them in case the magnet was not strong enough. Doing 75 mph the magenta held. Going faster then that thr magnets would fail.Overall very happy with the purchase, the quality construction of the basket and all the add ons to ensure you have everything for a long trip. It comes with some basic tools to assembly but you will want to use real tools to make it easier on yourself. Also watch a YouTube video on the proper way to assemble with screw, washer, nut to ensure you do it right. The instructions on what order to do it are a bit lacking.

Was pleasantly surprised by both the quality and the amount of gear this held. It is heavy, so be prepared. Assembly was pretty easy! It held up on our 2500 miles of roadtrip through sun and rain. It was just as sturdy when we got home as when we left. I would not buy the trailer light kit for it that comes up on recommendation, as it hung too low, but everything about the rack itself was as described and worked perfect!

It came with all need parts. Was straight forward to assemble. The choice to use flat head screws for the connector plates seems weird. They cam out very easily and seem to be made of soft metal. I'll probably replace those before the first drive.

If you have a hitch on your vehicle having one of these is a must. They are super handy for oddly shaped items. I use this cargo carrier to tote around my snowblower. It is so much more convenient than trying to load it into the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee. When you get the carrier, building it is a breeze. The only thing I didn't like was the screw headed bolts that are used on the basket. I wasn't able to get them as tight as I would like. This cargo carrier is a convenient package because it includes ratchet straps, a cargo net and hitch pin. One downside for my application was that when I folded up the basket it would hit my Jeep's tailgate (see picture). Overall this is a great cargo carrier.

From the photos that some people showed, they might have made a design change or 2 in this cargo rack. They need to make a change to the included hardware, as well. The photos I posted are of the "stabilizer" (it basically tightens the tongue against the hitch). The included washers (the smaller ones you see) are so small and thin, they will get pulled into the elongated holes and destroyed pretty quickly. In no uncertain terms, they are the WRONG WASHERS. Again referring to my photos, I found a couple of washers with the correct hole size which were plenty large enough they could cover the elongated holes with ease, and they are thick enough they won't bend and get all deformed. The washers I installed are correct. The ones they supply are simply wrong. If you don't have some correctly sized washers in your workshop supply as I did, you might want to pick some up.While you're at it, pick up replacement hardware for all the graded hardware (4 bolts, 4 nuts, 8 washers (I put nice thick washers on both sides to minimize the deflection in the tubing caused by torquing the bolts down). That's 3 M10 bolts that hold the 2 sides to the center bar, and the 1 M12 bolt that connects the tongue to the center bar. In fact, the M12 nut I replaced with a nylon lock-nut, and I lock-tited EVERYTHING, regardless of "lock washers" or not.The included hardware is grade 4.8. Simply put, grade 4.8 is as low-grade as a bolt gets that still gets graded. I replaced all 4 bolts (3 M10 and 1 M12) and associated nuts and washers for $20 at my local hardware store with grade 8.8, which is 2x (yes, 2x) as strong as grade 4.8 bolts. I STRONGLY recommend you upgrade the main (long) bolts to grade 8.8 (or 10.8 if you're feeling frisky). Do NOT replace the hardware with stainless steel, as stainless steel isn't as strong as non-stainless graded fasteners. Stainless steel is roughly equivalent to grade 4.8, generally.Once you replace the critical bolts, this goes together pretty simply. I think, fr.

Carrier arrived a day earlier than promised.Family heading to Florida from New York, we have a large SUV but need room for family. I had two choices, roof rack or cargo hitch setup. Roof rack the carrier and luggage bag roughly $500.Getting luggage up and down could be a real pain so I chose my cargo carrier for hitch.Very easy to put together and install. Great quality materials. The bag is very tough and waterproof. I paid half of the roof rack.I highly recommend.

Assembled on my own without difficulty in under an hour, working slowly and enjoying the pretty day. Probably could have been faster, fairly straightforward and all parts present. Seems sturdy and was quiet and secure on a trail drive. Will be using it to being a student home from college and later for a beach trip. Will update if issues but for now, really pleased with the purchase.

After a lot of researching, I settled on this one due to the price & the ratings. It arrived quickly. It is sturdy & it was easy to assemble. I also like the quality of the bag, it kept everything nicely protected. Other reviews discussed seeing surface rust on the carrier. I didn't drive it through heavy rain, however, after a week of some light rain, I didn't have any issues with it. If the carrier rusts, it will only be surface rust and I will touch it up along the way. I would buy this package again.

The Mockins Carrier includes almost everything a buyer could want. The assembly was easy. Everything in box seems high in quality. I'll be trying it out for the first time tomorrow in zero degree weather and I don't feel even slightly worried. I purchased some 3/4 inch PVC to create an internal frame for the bag. I suppose Mockins could consider making an internal frame an option for making their product even more attractive. (See the picture) The product is a great value. It's easy for me to recommend it for others. An update: We recently drove 900 miles with unit. On the first half of the trip the temperature was sub-zero. On the second half of the trip it poured down rain. The product performed very well. Everything in the bag stayed dry and clean. One critique, the zipper was hard to zip around the corners. I don't have a suggestion.

This product was very easy to put together and very easy to put on my car and to take it off. The first time we used this, we drove through the rain and the carrier bag kept everything very dry. The bag is pretty thick so it wasnt blowing in the wind and it came with straps to tie it down. We added bungie cords over top just to be safe but we had no issues. The carrier bag is very roomy as we fit 3 suitcases, 2 reusable grocery bags filled, 2 tennis rackets, and a boogie board with room to spare. I am very happy with this purchase as it allowed us to not be crammed in the car and we were able to bring extras to enjoy our trip.

Ok - So. Full Transparency. I didn't receive any compensation for this review, nor am I an expert. These are my own meandering thoughts and opinions based on my experience with this product. Take them for what they are worth. This is kind of a long read. I tried to do little headings so you can skip around to what you need.Pros: ConstructionCons: The bundle, some functionality and the priceContext: We took this on a 6 hour cross state trip where we encountered rain on multiple days and varying degrees of intensity. We were on town roads and highways. Speed ranged from 25 mph to 80 mph while loaded and not loaded.Expectation: This is a $249 dollar purchase. I'm not expecting something that I can transport industrial equipment on regardless of the stated weight tolerance. That is not the intended purpose of this item. Its for weekend warrior and family types who need some extra room to carry a small amount of stuff. That said, I'm 200 lbs and I had about 100 lbs of stuff on it and it held up very well to me jumping on it.Another note - There is a picture on one of these reviews where a guy put a 350lb generator on one side of the hitch and was upset about that way it was holding up. Using this item requires some basic understanding of physics. If you are going to load up any hitch like this make sure the load is distributed properly so it takes advantage of the strengths.Construction - Ok. There is some truth to the reviews about drill hole tolerance. The problem is that some of the holes are probably within spec, but are far enough apart to cause some issue. Mine are just offset enough that I have to spend a few minutes jiggling it around when I want to put the hitch in the upright position. There is also some truth to the rust complaint. This is probably due to assembly prior to applying the coating. Overall, once put together. It seemed pretty solid. It was much better than the aluminum carriers I looked at where the corners are held together by plastic, its solid.

The weld on this product came crooked so it sat on the car crooked. We didn't open it until after 30 days so not returnable on amazon but the company has been fabulous to deal with and is backing their product. Looking forward to using it.

This carrier looks great but I have not been able to put it on yet because the hinge pin is not lined up and will have to be redrilled toBe able to function. Not the end of the world but not what I wanted to do hopefully mine just a one off problem and others don't have this issue as well.

Awesome product. Better than I expected. By far the best deal on many many of these I looked at prior to purchase. This unit comes with the hitch, frame, cage, etc. The sides on the "cage" are about 6" high. The bag that comes with it is very heavy duty and pretty big (60" x 18" x 24" or so) and has six built in straps to tie it down. And the package comes with four extra ratchet straps and a big cargo bungee unit as well. What a deal. We put tons of stuff in the bag which zips and velcro's closed....three suit cases and 4-5 big bags of Christmas gifts on a trip to FLA with 5 passengers and big dog in our Yukon. Always so crowded in the car before. Not this time. If you have basic assembly skills you can put this together. I saw many other units about the same price, but did not come with the bag and the straps and the bungee net, etc. The bag itself is worth $60-80 on other units.Put about 2200 miles on it, in all types of weather (including rain). No leakage, no problems. Awesome bag and unit.It does fold up when empty so you can drive with it not sticking out 3'. It does stick pretty far out the back of vehicle, but good news is my Yukon liftgate still opens even with bag full and secured in place. Never ever noticed or heard it back there on any leg of the trips. No wind rattle or sway (but I am in a big Yukon)Highly recommend this unit. I saw a few negative comments about rust and such....did not experience/see any of that on mine. I expect it will last at least minim 5 years are probably 10. Even if it didn't I would happily spend the $140 for this unit every couple or three years and still love it.
