The rack is solid and very heavy. After assembly and mounting to truck the rack sits at a dramatic angle from front to back. It appears the receiver tube is not assembled and bent correctly to allow the rack to rest level. I will be using the rack on the back of a camper to haul vertical Weber smoker. With the height of the smoker and the angle of the rack, I do not have confidence in the rack working as expected, although the rest of the build is good. I have contacted the shop to see if they will correct the issue.
I usually don't write reviews but I have to do for this one. Totally worth the price. I cannot believe they send everything you needed for. It even comes with the hitch lock which is very good quality. It fits 4 extra large suitcases with ease. The bag it comes with is heavy duty and kept everything nice and dry for our 12 hours drive.
Spring locks do not align with the side basket holes so the gate does not lock shut. Welding on the bottom grid is very poor so would potentially tear the bag if used. Poor quality control as other reviewers have similar issues. Such a shame, it seems sturdy otherwise. Waste of time.
Assembly of this is pretty involved, I'd have a few hours and a good socket set on hand.This is quote heavy and well built. Once installed on my truck I can stand and bounce in it with confidence. It's nice that it folds up when not in use, but it's not the easiest to do. You have to collapse the sides first then remove the pin. The clearance of the two holes is quite tight so you have to play with the angle and really wiggle the pin in. The benefit of it being tight is it doesn't move around, but it would be easier if the pin were longer and more tapered. The chain link that keeps it collapsed is functional, but it does still shift. I would prefer something that keeps it more secure.Because the unit is very sturdy it is heavy, so you may need 2 people to install and remove based on your strength.I plan to use this to haul a lawn mower freeing up the bed for yard debris.
Bought it to move my daughter from Cape Cod to FL and that carrier held the weight and was super stable and no wiggle. The canvas cover is well made and no water got inside through the rainy weather. I'd definitely recommend it. The electrical installation was super easy. Curt hitch was installed at U-H@ul.
I used it for camping equipment and daily storage of kitchen set up and storage bins. Loved having so much storage. Huge (in a good way).Was a pain to assemble. Really difficult to screw in bolts. Side walls don't quite align properly so you have to -˜help' them together. A little lopsided slanting to the left. One of the pins to hold sides down fell off on first used. Plastic clip on tie down strip broke on first use.Would still recommend at this price.Huge capacity. Rear door on my Yukon doesn't open when cargo bag is full so access was difficult while on the road.
Solid construction and materials. This is a heavy and heavy duty product. Will require two people to attach to hitch. The included bags and net are well constructed. Items of concern include the latch not going through all the way (see pictures) and the taillights not secured well. They are loose after install and while I didn't show it, we zip tied them to ensure they did not fall out while driving. The taillights connect well to the vehicle and included braking and turn signal functionality. Some of the pictures in the instruction book are dark; however, if you read the book and follow the directions assembly is straightforward. Please plan on around 3 hours to put unit together.
Great product and easy to put together with the correct tools.Disappointed in the provided spring locks as they seem to be a little short. I would prefer to see a longer spring lock so the entire bolt could cross over to the other side of the rail hole.Also the provided Carabiner seems too small. When the cage is down for storage and the sides folded together I cannot get the carabiner to fit in to the 2 holes that secure the cage. So I am using a zip tie to hold them at this time.I called and emailed the company and there solution was for me to purchase new longer spring locks and a larger carabiner. Then I would have to send them the receipt for a reimbursement. Not the best way in my opinion to resolve a customers problem.
The packaging of the item is great. It all fits in there and everything arrived intact. I'm skilled with tools and as a handywoman. I have done complicated remodeling projects. The assembly of this hitch rack was a lot harder than it should have been.1. The pictures in the instruction booklet do not have enough contrast. They are trying to show a black thing on a slightly lighter black background. I struggled to see exactly what I was supposed to do.2. The side panel of my hitch rack arrived disconnected. I searched everywhere for the missing piece. Eventually I bought another tiny e clip at a Harbor Freight for $5.99 (big box full).3. The lights of the hitch rack arrived disconnected from the wires. In all the instructions it shows them factory connected. Pushing the wires in was not easy. It took a fair amount of effort and I worried I might break it.4. One of my lights is cracked and has a hole but it's hidden by the rubber gasket so I guess it's ok.5. No matter HOW I put the neck of the rack onto the basket it WILL NOT line up when I fold the rack up vertically against my vehicle. I had to buy a smaller pin to insert to hold the rack upright. I included pictures. It lines up fine when I need to insert the provided pin to secure the basket in the lowered position. I tried taking it apart and reassembling it multiple times. It makes no difference. The extra pin was $6 at Home Depot.6. A tool list at the beginning of this instruction booklet would have been really handy. I ended up needing a socket set, 2 sets of wrenches, a flat & Phillips, a wire stripper, 2 different large crescent wrenches and maybe another couple things I'm not remembering.7. Some of the bolts included do not look like what the instruction manual showed. I did a process of elimination to narrow down what was left.8. The wire box connector was really cheap. It made the job harder. Wish that was higher quality.This rack is HEAVY. It took both my husband and me to place it in the hitch and line.
Heavy duty, sturdy, greatly made but.....One big manufacturer failure. This failure could be big deal or not, depends how mechanically you are inclined and what tools you have.As you see on one of picture the bolt will not going into the hole as it supposed to be. All three hols on this arm on picture, probably by mistake, were made with smaller diameter.This arm connect to the carrier and at this side allows to fold carrier. So all three holes needs to be drilled to bigger diameter to allow bold and safety pin able to go through. Personally for me it was not big issue. Need good step bit and powerful drill. Metal is thick and hard at this point.But if you have no access to tools or machine shop, it will become a huge problem. I honestly don't know even how comfortably you can return it. Box is really heavy and pain in....to repack.I hope the shop/manufacturer will read it and make the correction.I will put 3 stars.But.....if you able to do modification and it is not a big deal for you, the functionality of this is great. This has license plate relocation bracket and it could be adjusted to the current position of carrier.
Used on a 1200 mile round trip in the snow. There is some rust from road salt but held up well and everything stayed dry
I read through many of the review on this cargo carrier before purchasing and was a little worried I would be disappointed with the product. IT IS VERY GOOD QUALITY AND VERY STURDY. Even the straps that it comes with did the job for an extended weekend trip from AZ to CA. Excellent bang for the buck, and I NEVER write reviews but was compelled to do so after using this product.

We put this on a 17 highlander.It is sturdy and does not move.We had 2 large full coolers and camp chairs tied in.It took 2 of us to assemble but went fairly easy,needed a little you tube help.Wiring the taillights was a little fussy but once done,they worked .I feel like the actual taillights were a little jiggly on the frame so I twist tied some wire around to secure them tightly.The sides fold down which is handy for packing and the back gate folds in a bit so easy to store on its side.This is our only experience with a cargo rack and this was purchased after a lot of research.Met our expectations.Will update review if something goes amiss.
We own a 2022 Ford Expedition. For summer vacations we have been renting an Expedition Max or Suburban for extra packing room. Car rental has gone up quite a bit, so I was thinking of maybe just renting a small trailer. Then I saw this idea. This carrier had good ratings and I liked that the license plate could be mounted on the back AND lights were included in the back to extend the rear lights... including braking and blinker. Assembly was straight forward, and installation into hitch receiver was possible for one person, but 2 is better... not so much for heavy weight, but getting the hitch receiver hole lined up to put lockable pin in (included with the product). We had 2 large, 3 medium, 1 small suitcase, 3 box fans, in addition to stacking small boxes, sacks, fishing poles (3) and fishing gear in the carrier. It definitely made our Expedition into a Max version and comfortably let us carry enough for 4 adults and 2 kids on a vacation. High rating for quality, engineering, well thought out functionality, sturdy frame and thick canvass bag to protect contents from weather.
It's really a 4.8 overall. My ordered arrived very quickly, all the components were received, I watched the video for assembly (helpful). I am very happy with this purchase, however, like mentioned by others the tail lights need a better design as far as being able to securly attach to the carrier. I also used electrical tape to secure the lights in place, the overall quality is great (except for the lighting). Perhaps an engineer can create two metal plates ( one on either side of the frame with the tail light positioned in between the plates and the entire set up is bolted together to the frame? The light issue would not stop me from recommending this unit to others, but for the price, one would think this is an easy fix at the assembly site.

Very happy with this basket. Assembly was fairly easy (though I am also a mechanic by trade so take that with a grain of salt). You will need some basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdriver etc.) to assemble, but otherwise it comes with everything you need. My only complaint is that the anti-rattle clip U-bolt arrived with some damaged threads, but that was a $10 harbor-freight problem. It survived 3k miles behind a Subaru outback with no other issues and I expect to put another 3k miles on it later this year. It did make a little bit of noise going over bumps, but nothing outrageous and does change the handling of my vehicle slightly, but once again, nothing outrageous. It may obscure your rear license plate which, while legal in my state, may not be legal in yours which is why it comes with a license plate bracket. Also, this may block your backup camera, so you'll have to pretend it's 1999 and use your mirrors.
You are done stop shopping this carrier is amazing. Everything is in the box from straps to the bag and net. All lights wires even tape was included. Great for road trips and is easy to install, or convert from carrier to stowed. Just buy it you'll be glad you did.
